A Moment to Notice

Simple ways to pause, notice, and reconnect with yourself

Sometimes finding your way back to yourself doesn't require another answer. It begins with a moment.

A moment to stop. A moment to notice what is happening in your body, your thoughts, your emotions, and around you. A moment before deciding what any of it means.

The Permission Slip Deck and Stress Be Gone Deck were created to help make those moments easier to find in everyday life.

They aren't here to tell you what you should do. They give you something much simpler: a place to begin noticing.

Start Here

Before choosing a card, take a few seconds and ask yourself:

What am I noticing in my body?

Maybe your shoulders feel tight. Your breathing may be shallow or easy. You might notice warmth, movement, heaviness, restlessness, or nothing particularly noticeable at all.

What am I noticing in my thoughts or emotions?

You don't need to find the perfect word. Simply notice what is present.

What am I noticing around me?

Noise. Quiet. People. Light. Movement. Your surroundings are part of your experience too.

There is nothing you need to change yet.

The practice is the noticing.

What might you give yourself permission to consider today?

We carry many quiet rules: I should keep going. I shouldn't disappoint anyone. I should already know the answer. I shouldn't change my mind. I should be able to handle this.

Sometimes we don't even realize a rule is there until something interrupts it.

The Permission Slip Deck offers small invitations to pause and consider what you might give yourself permission to do, feel, question, change, or simply leave alone.

Draw a card. Read it slowly. And before deciding whether you agree with it, notice your response.

Did something soften? Did you immediately think, “Absolutely not”? Did you smile? Did the permission feel uncomfortable, relieving, irritating, impossible, or surprisingly obvious?

You don't have to follow the card. Your reaction to it may be the most interesting part.

A small interruption in a busy day

Stress doesn't always arrive when we have time to deal with it. It can show up between meetings, while answering emails, driving from one responsibility to another, caring for someone else, trying to make a decision, or simply attempting to get through an already full day.

The Stress Be Gone Deck offers simple prompts and practices that can create a small interruption in that momentum.

Choose a card. Try the invitation if it feels appropriate. Then notice.

What is happening in your breathing? Your posture? Your thoughts? Your emotions?

You aren't looking for proof that the card “worked.” Instead ask: What changed, if anything?

Even noticing that nothing changed is information.

Before choosing a card, ask:

What am I noticing in my body?
What am I noticing in my thoughts or emotions?
What am I noticing around me?

Then choose a card from either deck. Pause with it. Afterwards, ask the same three questions again.

You don't need to feel calmer. You don't need to discover something profound. You don't even need to like the card. Just notice.

Over time, these small moments can help you become more familiar with how you respond to situations, expectations, choices, people, and your environment. Becoming more familiar with yourself can give you more information to consider when deciding what comes next.

You Don't Have to Find the Answer Here

These decks aren't intended to diagnose, treat, or tell you what is right for you. They are invitations to pause.

Sometimes you may notice something that deserves further attention. Sometimes you may realize you need more information. Sometimes noticing may lead you to talk with someone you trust or seek professional expertise.

And sometimes the only thing you discover is: This is how I am right now.

That is enough for the moment. Because finding your way back to yourself doesn't always begin with knowing. Sometimes it begins with noticing.
